Swedish Relaxation Massage One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension. Swedish massage strokes and principles may be combined with other techniques based on your specific needs.

Deep Tissue Massage Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints), through long slow strokes and deep finger pressure on tensed areas. This technique improves body alignment and freedom of movement.  It is typically combined with Swedish relaxation massage.

Deep Massage Has roots in advanced massage approaches including Deep Tissue, Rolfing and Zero Balancing. Deep Massage contacts both structure and energy in the deeper muscle layers by utilizing trigger point techniques, deep effleurage, cross-fiber work, and other advanced techniques to help more permanently relieve pain and chronic tension.

Trigger Point Applies concentrated finger pressure to tender areas in the muscle in order to break the cycle of spasm and pain. In this type of massage, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. This is often combined with Deep Tissue Massage and sometimes with Swedish Relaxation.

Myofascial Release A mild and gentle hands on form of stretching which relieves connective tissue restrictions all over the body promoting strength, flexibility, range of motion and proper alignment. It releases chronic problems and reduces pain. This is typically combined with Deep Tissue and Swedish Massage.

Sports Massage A form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics.  Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.

Integrative Massage A blend of the above modalities and more. There are many, many styles of massage most of which share the related goals of achieving and maintaining good physical condition and providing the client with a sense of well-being. Integration massage means I will draw upon techniques from each of these modalities and others to best suit your unique situation.

Pregnancy Massage Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling). In addition, massage reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension-which aids in better sleep-and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
